Foneshow Shaking up the Radio Market

One of our portfolio companies, Foneshow, was featured in the New York Daily News article today.   Founder Erik Schwartz has long been speaking of the slow decline (gaining rapidity) of the radio industry and has positioned Foneshow as a tool to help the turn the tide for the giant.

Foneshow has developed a platform technology by which users sign up to hear content they want (New York Times 5 minute front page summary, Fox News 5 Minute Newscast, CNN News Update, ESPN Radio Daily Podcast or the Comic Wonder Audio Joke of the Day...).  There are literally thousands upon thousands of shows available at www.foneshow.com.  Foneshows get delivered to your cell phone almost immediately after they are published (eliminates the problem with the time-sensitivity of most podcasts -- eg., you want the CNN news update but when you sync your Ipod on Friday, Monday's news isn't so important to you anymore....) via text message (SMS).  The text has a phone number embedded in it that you just click on and voila, you are listening to your favorite shows.  It's simple and elegant.  I've become a big user myself -- especially when I commute or have a road trip.  I listen to my shows via bluetooth.
